The Essence of Gofindyourself Yoga: A little beyond the mat

Updated: Apr 4

When I first started my journey as a yoga teacher, I knew I wanted to honor the practice that continues to give me the space to truly see myself.

Yoga has become the place where I could create space to witness parts of myself I didn’t even know existed. It has been a process of uncovering, understanding, and embracing all that I am.

Through this, I’ve come to know myself more deeply. The name Gofindyourself Yoga may sound simple, but it holds the essence of this ongoing journey.

When I chose the name Gofindyourself Yoga, it wasn’t just a catchy phrase—it was a reflection of what yoga has meant to me and what I hope to share with others. It’s an invitation to embark on the lifelong process of self-discovery, growth, and transformation. It’s a call to explore not just your physical practice, but your inner world as well. In yoga, we often speak of the path to self-realization, and I believe that your mat is a place where you can begin to understand who you are and where you are meant to be.

The "go" in 'Gofindyourself Yoga' emphasizes the action required. Yoga isn’t something that can be done passively; it’s a practice that invites you to step into it, to engage with it, and to actively explore and experience yourself. You have to do the work.

"Find yourself" brings the element of discovery. Finding yourself isn’t about constructing a new identity or chasing some ideal version of who you should be. It’s about peeling back layers, learning from your experiences, and embracing the process. Over time, through your yoga practice, you may discover hidden strengths, your true desires, or even the parts of yourself that you might have overlooked. It’s a journey that is unique to each individual, and one that continuously evolves. It's about facing what you’ve ignored or buried, and embracing both the light and the dark within. It’s about being courageous enough to explore the unknown, both within and beyond yourself.

Identifying, Embracing, and Integrating the Shadow Self

In yoga and mindfulness, we often talk about self-awareness, but true self-awareness isn’t just about recognizing our strengths—it’s also about facing our shadows. The aspects of ourselves we suppress, avoid, or judge harshly—our fears, insecurities, and past wounds—are just as much a part of us as our kindness, wisdom, and love.

"Integrity is who you are when you think nobody is watching." -David Fredriksson (in a conference in Purple Valley, Goa, India)

Yoga, when practiced with integrity, brings these hidden parts of ourselves to the surface. A challenging posture may reveal frustration or impatience. A moment of stillness may bring up emotions we’ve long ignored. But rather than rejecting these parts of ourselves, yoga teaches us to meet them with compassion. Through practice, we learn not just to identify our shadows, but to embrace them and integrate them into our wholeness.

Being a Seeker of Something Greater

To go find yourself is not just an inward journey—it is also a quest for something greater. Whether you call it truth, purpose, the divine, or simply a deeper connection to life, yoga encourages us to seek beyond the mundane. The physical practice/asana may start as a way to strengthen the body, but over time, it reveals itself as a doorway to something much deeper.

The philosophy of yoga reminds us that we are more than just our thoughts, emotions, and experiences. We are part of something vast and interconnected. This search—this longing—is what keeps us moving forward, exploring, and growing. It’s what turns yoga from just a practice into a way of life.

Not Being Afraid of the Unknown

Finding yourself also means stepping into uncertainty with an open heart. Yoga teaches us to be present, to sit with discomfort, and to trust the process even when we can’t see where it’s leading. Whether it’s holding a challenging posture, navigating a major life transition, or questioning long-held beliefs, true growth happens when we lean into the unknown rather than resist it.

In my own journey, I’m still learning that surrendering to the unknown doesn’t mean giving up control—it means having faith that whatever is unfolding is leading me to a deeper understanding of myself. It's been a practice and I am no where close to perfecting it. Through yoga and mindfulness, we cultivate the ability to move through life with curiosity rather than fear.

Embarking on a Journey of Individuation

In yoga philosophy, there’s an idea that we are all conditioned by external influences—society, family, personal experiences—and that true freedom comes from breaking through these limitations and discovering who we really are. This process, known in psychology as individuation, is at the heart of self-discovery.

Yoga and mindfulness give us the tools to step outside of the roles we’ve been given - our name, job, nationality, gender, orientation, color, race, income, relationship status and the likes. It invokes us to ask: Who am I beyond these labels? Through practice, we begin to see ourselves more clearly—not as who we think we should be, but as our authentic selves.

This journey isn’t about fitting into an idea of perfection; it’s about reclaiming your truth, living in alignment with it, and finding peace within it.

The Essence of ‘Gofindyourself Yoga

Ultimately, ‘Gofindyourself Yoga’ is not just about yoga asana, it’s about the holistic approach to life. It’s about integrating the wisdom of yoga into our daily actions, thoughts, and interactions.

Gofindyourself Yoga is more than a name—it’s a philosophy. It’s a reminder that yoga is not just about flexibility or strength; it’s about discovering, embracing, and integrating all parts of yourself. It’s about seeking something greater, stepping into the unknown with courage, and forging a path that is uniquely yours.

If you feel called to this journey, I invite you to step onto the mat, take a deep breath, and begin. The path is already within you—all you have to do is go find yourself. Remember that yoga is not a destination—it’s the unfolding of who you already are.

Whether in a corporate setting, a personal practice at home, or during a workshop, my intention is to offer a space where each of us can reconnect with our truest self.

If you’re just beginning or have been on this journey for years, through ‘Gofindyourself Yoga,’ I invite you to go on that journey of self-discovery, one breath and one movement at a time.
